A Word From Mrs. Rasmussen- Principal and Mrs. Putnam- Assistant Principal

As December unfolds, we are reminded of the joy and warmth that comes from the season of giving. This time of year provides a wonderful opportunity to teach our students about kindness, generosity, and gratitude. Whether it's sharing a smile, helping a friend, or giving to those in need, every act of kindness makes a difference. Let’s encourage our children to embrace the spirit of giving, not only during the holidays but all year long. Together, we can create a school community filled with compassion and goodwill.

On behalf of all of us here at Templeton Elementary School, and from our families to yours, have a wonderful holiday season!

Supporting Learning at Home Over the Holiday Break

The holiday break is a wonderful opportunity for families to spend quality time together and recharge. It’s also a great time to keep kids engaged in fun and meaningful learning experiences. Here are a few simple ways to support learning at home during the holidays:

  1. Make Reading a Daily Habit: Encourage your child to read a book, magazine, or comic each day. Consider reading together as a family, or take turns sharing favorite stories. Visiting the local library before the break can provide plenty of new reading material.

  2. Incorporate Learning into Everyday Activities: Involve your child in holiday cooking to practice math skills like measuring and fractions. Writing holiday cards can improve handwriting and creative writing, while counting decorations or singing holiday songs can be a playful way to reinforce math and language skills.

  3. Explore Through Play: Board games, puzzles, and building sets like LEGO® encourage problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. These activities make learning fun and interactive for the whole family.

  4. Get Outside and Explore: If weather permits, head outdoors for a nature walk or visit a nearby park. Observing the world around them can spark curiosity and lead to discussions about science, seasons, and wildlife.

  5. Set Goals for the New Year: Use the break as an opportunity to reflect on achievements and set goals for the next semester. This can help your child feel motivated and focused when they return to school.

Remember, learning doesn’t have to be formal or structured to be effective. Engaging in everyday activities with a curious mindset can help your child develop skills while creating meaningful family memories.

Templeton Elementary School

The students, staff, and families of the Narragansett Regional School District elementary schools will work together as a learning community to provide a safe, positive learning environment that promotes academic, emotional, social, and physical growth so that all members will be responsible and respectful citizens.
