Principal’s Flyer #38: May 26, 2025
Dear Students & Families:
We hope everyone is having a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend, and of course, enjoying the unofficial start of the summer season. We are extremely fortunate to have a number of community members including Mr. Stephen Babineau, Mr. James Brehio, Mr. Joe Falco, Ms. Laurie Lyons, and Mr. Timothy Toth who are all dedicated year-after-year to teaching our MS/HS students the meaning of Memorial Day in an educational, student-led fashion. This year was no different, with Mr. (Coach) Brehio offering especially poignant remarks on the meaning of our memorial in the high school front lobby, and the significance of the memorial to ‘Gansett Alums that are honored that our students walk by every day. The personal touch from Jim connecting a national observance to our towns was incredibly, incredibly poignant. Thank you to Coach Brehio.
During these ceremonies, we are always struck by the outstanding student decorum. Our general student body presents extremely well, and our student participants put on a ceremony of which we are incredibly proud. Thank you to our student participants Daniel Dean III, Isabelle Hill, Alina Zheng, Michael Braccini, Carmine Imbriglio, Kelly Taylor, Lillian Morrilly, Matthew Basil, and Nicole Nagginda for doing such a nice job with poignant ceremonies including the placing of the wreath to honor our fallen heroes, the presentation of the American Flag, Taps, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you also to the NRSD band, which played beautifully our Star Spangled Banner, the Armed Forces Medley, and program music. In general, events like this demonstrate the outstanding nature of our students and wider community. Here are just a few photos to commemorate our 2025 observance, courtesy of Ms. Katie McBrine.

Last Tuesday, New England Association for College Admission Counseling’s College Fair was held at Keene State College. Afterward, the students got a tour of the campus where they were able to see the average size of a college dorm room, see a college classroom, chat with some professors including our retired Narragansett Technology Director, Mike Wakefield, and explore the city of Keene with a walk to a local pizza place. Students had a great time. We hope this sparks their interest in exploring more college campuses this summer with family and friends! Thank you to all students who participated! Students and families: please always be on the lookout for college fairs that we attend throughout the year. This is just one way our school is trying to help equip our students with the tools, familiarity, and understanding of whether or not college is for them/you!
Lastly, kudos today goes out to our NRSD Color Guard, which is participating in our local Memorial Day parade! With the timing of this event we’ll miss photos for this memo, but we’ll get them online and to you over the next couple days! Kudos to our Color Guard for supporting Memorial Day community events.
Important Updates to State Testing: MCAS |
We continue to run a near 100% percent participation rate in MCAS. We thank all families for your continued diligence around MCAS, which is an important indicator we used to allocate our resources and support student learning, and for how the state evaluates NRHS. Great job to our students and families for coming ready to “show what you know” for MCAS. Next week after graduation we will finish up MCAS with the Grade 9 Biology exam. All Grade 9 students will be given their room assignments on Wednesday morning at 7:45 AM in A block via email.
