Principal’s Flyer #37: May 18, 2025

Dear Students & Families:

We hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend and are enjoying May thus far.  Thanks to our parents/families and fellow students for coming out to support Narragansett Athletics, and hard to believe it but we are looking forward to senior students’ last week of regular classes this week!  A reminder to all families that the district sent out notices about routine BIMAS screening in the last two weeks, and those screenings will begin for students this week.  Thanks to families for taking a moment to review the surveys, and to our Care Team for checking in on the mental health and wellness of our students.

This week major congratulations goes out to our Competition Robotics team and program, which won first overall in a competition of 32 robots and approaching a dozen schools/programs in competitionZack Harmon and Quinn Wiedle went undefeated (10-0) and were thus the undisputed champions for 2025 competition, and Tyler Orcutt and Miranda Sweeney placed in the Top 10.  Congratulations to all of our students! We hope/expect to see strong robotics out of this program, which has now won competition the last three out of four years.  Congratulations to our innovative students, and thanks to Mr. Gagnon for his work in running an exemplary program.

Today we are also shouting out all athletes and participants in the 2025 Special Olympics, which was held on a glorious Friday.  Narragansett sent a large Warrior contingent over to Gardner to compete and represent NRSD and contribute to the larger event.  Way-to-go Warriors, and thank you to all involved for an outstanding event. In case you missed the post on social media, check out Team ‘Gansett!

And finally, you may see additional work going on outside of the high school as well as police cruisers and fire trucks visiting the campus this Tuesday.  Not to worry, the work being undertaken will be by our Class of 2025, which will be participating in the a senior-give back day which beautifies and cleans up our campus and washes some of our emergency/first-response and public safety vehicles as a thank you for supporting student safety and our wider community as part of GAAP Day.  Thanks in advance to our seniors for giving back this Tuesday!

School Advisory Council

We are proud to announce the students who will serve as our School Advisory Council for the 25-26 school year, and as members of the regional and statewide student advisory councils.  As part of this process, student school advisors meet and vote for the School Committee Representative to represent the wider student body on the NRSD School Committee.  We are pleased to report that the group met, debated, and voted for rising Senior Isabelle Hill to represent the student body, with rising Junior Kelly Taylor to represent students in absentia of Isabelle.  As part of their roles and responsibilities, school advisory council members help inform the direction of the school by meeting with school leadership, participating in advisory council with the community members and staff, and liaising with Student Council officers.  Between our strong Student Council and School Advisory Council cohorts this year, NRHS is extremely well-positioned for meaningful student leadership moving into the 25-26 School Year!

Save The Date: Memorial Day Observance at NRHS

On Friday, May 23, 2024, beginning at 1:15 p.m., the Narragansett Regional High and Middle Schools will hold a Memorial Day Observance in Elinor J. Putnam Gymnasium (464 Baldwinville Rd., Baldwinville, MA).  This observance is coordinated by retired Music Director Mr. Stephen Babineau in cooperation with the Narragansett Administration and the Baldwinville American Legion Post since 2011.  The program is essentially the same format as the one at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Winchendon.  This year’s guest speaker will be Mr. James Brehio, a well-known figure in the Narragansett Community.

The public is invited to this event.  The facility is handicapped accessible.  Veterans are encouraged to wear insignia showing their branch of service.  For more information, contact Principal Colby Young of Narragansett High School at 978-939-5388 or cyoung@nrsd.org.
