Principal’s Flyer #35: May 4, 2025

Dear Students & Families:

We hope everyone has navigated the weekend rainstorm(s) and is enjoying May thus far.   Last week was a great week for us at NRHS.  MCAS participation continues to run at close to 100% (thank you 8th grade students and families!) and our hardworking staff put on an outstanding GAAP Day 2025 program as well as prom at Wachusett Mountain.   Thank you foremost to Ms. Ann Lyons, our team of SRO’s including Sergeant Steve Flis and Officer Rob Deschenes and Firefighter Dan Dean for GAAP Day.  This event was sponsored (see all sponsors below) by the Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr.’s Office, and included a variety of “stations” for students to engage in - ranging from safe driving and accident simulations, mobile command, Life Flight, CERT, simulated traffic stops, discussions around healthy relationships and discussion on positive decision-making. We are deeply, deeply grateful to our local, county, and state stakeholders for their time, as well as incredibly sincere interest in protecting our young people.  We have such an affinity for this event because it models safety and citizenship, and it also shows in such stark terms how much our community members care about our students while building relationships between our students and the wider community.  Thank you to everyone involved for a wonderful GAAP Day 2025!

Thank you goes out to Ms. Lauren Caouette as well as Ryann Brown of the Templeton Senior Centers for starting what we hope will be new ‘Gansett Tradition: a Senior Fun Day which partners our Warrior Senior students with Senior Citizens for a day of games, a little fun banter, and most importantly, relationship building among our students and seniors.  Thank you to all for an outstanding day last Wednesday!

Thank you goes out to our Junior and Senior Class Advisors Ms. Michele Smith, Ms. Ann Lyons (Seniors) and Ms. Jess McLaughlin and Ms. Jamie Charrier (Juniors) and our families who volunteered their time to decorate to support a glorious 2025 junior senior prom at Mount Wachusett yesterday evening.   We’re always lucky to enjoy outstanding student behavior and decorum at our proms, and last night was no exception.  Perhaps it is due to classes growing larger…but in any case, the energy at prom was incredibly positive and fun.  As one student remarked walking out the door - “this prom is fire” (translation if you’re not up on the slang: that’s a good thing / compliment).  Great job to all involved!  Thank you advisors, family volunteers, chaperones, and students for a wonderful night.   Here are just a few pictures to capture the week!  Thank you staff member and photographer Ms. Katie McBrine for the photos!

Honors Society Induction Ceremony: Tuesday, May 6th @ 6:00 PM (Gym)

Please pardon in advance that we are messaging this out to all families repeatedly.  But with a late Patriots Day holiday / school vacation week this year and so many events ongoing, it is easy for families to overlook honors society induction night, which always takes place early in May.  At this point if your student is being inducted into one or more of our several honors societies, they (and likely you) would have been notified by their advisors to attend the ceremony this Tuesday in Putnam Gymnasium @ 6:00 PM.

Narragansett Receives Purple Star Campus Designation

The Narragansett Regional High School is proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2025 Purple Star Designation by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This distinguished honor is bestowed upon schools that demonstrate an unwavering commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families, addressing the unique challenges, educational gaps, and/or strengths that may arise due to a parent or guardian’s service to the nation. Narragansett is one of only seven schools in Massachusetts to receive this honor, highlighting its leadership in fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment.

Dr. Christopher Casaant, Superintendent of Schools, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition: "We are deeply honored to receive this state designation recognizing our commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. This achievement reflects the dedication of our educators, staff, and community in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for those who serve our nation. We remain steadfast in our mission to ensure that every military-connected student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive academically and socially. This designation inspires us to continue building bridges of understanding and support for these remarkable families."

The Purple Star Designation emphasizes the district’s commitment to ensuring that military-connected students have access to the resources, programs, and support systems they need to succeed. By addressing the challenges these students may face, Narragansett Regional High School continues to uphold its vision of educational integrity and community engagement.

For more information on resources and support available to military-connected students and families, please visit the school’s website.

On Friday, May 23, 2024, beginning at 1:15 p.m., the Narragansett Regional High and Middle Schools will hold a Memorial Day Observance in Elinor J. The public is invited to this event.  The facility is handicapped accessible.  Veterans are encouraged to wear insignia showing their branch of service.  For more information, contact Principal Colby Young of Narragansett High School at 978-939-5388 or cyoung@nrsd.org.
