Principal’s Flyer #32: April 9, 2023

Dear Warrior Students & Families:

Happy Sunday everyone.  We hope you’re having a wonderful holiday weekend enjoying the sunshine while anticipating the warmer weather this upcoming week, and we’re sure students are looking forward to the impending April vacation running the week of Monday April 17th through April 21st.   All students and families are reminded that this week is conference week; we look forward to seeing you during our afternoon sessions, which run on Wednesday (4/12)  and Thursday (4/13) of this week from 11:45 AM to  2:30 PM.

To begin our memo this week, we’d like to celebrate Warrior students and staff for excellence and effort this week.  On Monday, Ms. Nicole Hemlin was honored by Mass Insight for excellence in teaching and dedication to Science Technology and Engineering and Mathematics education.  Ms. Hemlin was given the prestigious Lawrie A. Bertram award for excellence in leadership in the field.  Here’s a photo of Ms. Hemlin receiving her award at the College of the Holy Cross, and a photo of Ms. Hemlin taking a moment with colleagues joining in support of this celebration.

The upcoming break marks the beginning of the home stretch for our class of 2023.   After 12 - glorious - years of learning, seniors are looking toward post-HS graduate life.  Students, friends, and families of seniors are advised that the Senior Week schedule is attached here.  Seniors will also receive the schedule as well as just a few reminders for enjoying the final stretch of their schooling at NRHS.  Forever diligent, check out just a few seniors working hard on college scholarship applications offered by our incredible partners in town!  Thank you to Ms. Katie Donnelly and Ms. Kathleen Jasinski for putting on scholarship help sessions after school.  Thanks in advance to our families and friends for making our late May / June senior “week” experiences memorable for our students.

STEM Awards: Project Lead the Way Industry Connects

We would like to offer special acknowledgement to Project Lead the Way, Biomedical Science students for receiving third place for outstanding, authentic work in a recent Industry Connections Feedback program.  Kayla Desrosiers (12), Ashley Kilbury (12), Natalee Medlin (11), and Zayden Hill (11) submitted a project / product idea to industry professionals aimed at solving the problem of misidentified infants in hospitals.  Industry professionals reviewed their work, and commended the team with a third place finish overall (out of dozens of teams).  In addition to acknowledgement, each student will be offered a paid internship opportunity to work within the biomedical science field with industry leaders.  Congratulations to these outstanding Warriors! Please find pictures of this outstanding team of scholars below…and did you know, NRHS offers three innovative STEM fields for students, consisting of three courses can/should begin during their 9th grade year in addition to core science courses:

Massachusetts AP Day and Mount Wachusetts Community College Acceptance Day!

AP Day, BostonKudos goes out to these outstanding NRHS students who participated in AP day last week including: Ashlin Gallagher, Sarah Hall, Xia Hill, Zayden Hill, Brielle Howlett, Raymond Kauffman, Ashley Lamoureux, Kasey Lovewell, Peter Stanley, and Faith Stillman.  These Warriors show tremendous academic tenacity in taking many of the most intellectually rigorous courses NRHS has to offer…courses that are typically more challenging than a college level introductory course, but they also show advocacy for related scholastic programming by participating in events of this type.  Special thanks to Ms. Mandy Flis and Mr. Erick Eiben for their work and advocacy for these students.
