At the May 3, 2023 meeting of the NRSD School Committee, MA State Senator Anne Gobi and MA State Representative Jonathan Zlotnik were in attendance to present citations to School Committee Chair Margaret Hughes, honoring her 10 years of service to the students and families of the Narragansett Regional School District.
Ms. Hughes served 10 years on the School Committee, serving as Vice Chair from May 2014 - May 2018, and School Committee Chair from May 2018 - present; she will be retiring this year at the end of her current term.
Ms. Hughes states that she is “forever grateful” for her time on the Committee and the impact the Committee has been able to make throughout her tenure, and also spoke to the quality of members that have served on this Committee over the years. She adds that it’s been a wonderful experience serving the district communities. She reminded her fellow Committee members, and anyone else who may be interested in serving in the future, that the Committee is here for the students, and this should be kept in mind for every decision that the Committee makes.
