Memo from the School Nurse With the arrival of summer and warmer temperatures our children will be spending more time outside in the sun. Research shows that a child’s sun exposure may cause skin problems later in life. Please keep these SUN SENSE tips in mind. · Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. · Reapply sunscreen frequently, especially after swimming, perspiring heavily or drying off with a towel. · Wear a hat with a wide brim to protect your neck, ears, eyes, forehead, nose and scalp. · Wear sunglasses that block 99 – 100% of UVA and UVB radiation. · Wear clothing that will protect as much skin as possible. · When possible, avoid outdoor activities during the hours between 10 am and 4pm when the sun’s rays are the strongest. · Encourage children to play in the shade whenever possible.
Remember…BLOCK THE SUN, NOT THE FUN HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! Mrs. Wilson
