Early Dismissal Procedure
During the winter of 2002-2003, the Narragansett Regional School District experienced snowstorms that began after school was in session resulting in middle school school students, and, especially elementary students arriving home very late. In order to remedy this situation, the high school students will be dismissed first with the middle school students dismissed approximately 45 minutes after high school students
- High School students dismissal: 1:10 p.m.
- Middle School students dismissal: 2:15 p.m.
- Elementary Schools students dismissal: 2:45-3:00 p.m.
It is anticipated that the early dismissal plan will enable elementary students to arrive home as close to their regular time as possible. In the event that an early dismissal is necessary announcements will be made over local radio and television stations.
At 10:00 A.M., elementary principals will check weather conditions on day the forecast mentions snow or ice. They will then call Dr. Hemman who upon a visual evaluation of the local conditions, if the conditions demand, will:
- Listen to T.V. and radio forecasts
- Call Public Works in each town for road conditions
- Solicit the opinion of elementary principals on P.M. kindergarten
- Check with all principals on conditions at their schools and for opinion
- Check with the bus companies
- Make decision by 11:00 A.M.
