District Curriculum Accommodation Plan
School Year 2004-2005


The following information is provided to comply with the Massachusetts General Laws Ch. 71 Section 38Q1/2 mandating that school districts provide a District Curriculum Accommodation Plan designed to assist principals in ensuring that all efforts have been made to meet students' needs in regular education and avoid unnecessary referrals to special education. In addition, Section 59C of Ch. 71 mandates that the school council will meet with the principal "for the development, implementation, and assessment of the curriculum accommodation plan" which should be individualized for each school building.
StrategiesDescription
Professional development for regular education classroom teachers to help them to analyze and accommodate various students' learning needs and to manage students' behavior.
  1. Mentors assigned for all new staff to ensure adherence to frameworks standards
  2. Training for all staff in modifications accommodations for regular education.
Support services for students
  1. Title I reading, writing, math*
  2. Ell intervention/monitoring*
  3. Before & after school tutorials and homework clubs*
  4. English Language Arts and mathematics academic success programs - during school day and after school
*All student support services address specifics in individual student success plans for intervention
Data Analysis and Curriculum Review
  1. Each year's MCAS results are analyzed and compared to the previous year's results. Performance patterns are identified, including strengths and weaknesses. Short and long term plans for curriculum changes in each academic area for small group and individual student support are formulated, based on results of the analysis.
Program planning
  1. Implement TASC-teachers assisting students in the classroom (Child Study Team process) to match students with appropriate services.
  2. Administrator-teacher review of Student Success Plan.
  3. Classroom interventions that reflect Student Success Plan.
  4. Deverlop short and long term goals based on Student Success Plans.
Communication with Parents
  1. Guidance counselors and teachers advise students of options and opportunities for additional instruction in areas of weakness, and of specific programs available to improve test performance.
  2. Administrators discuss MCAS results with parents, along with students's performance in regular school program.
