The Narragansett Regional School District is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 public school district that encompasses the towns of Templeton (pop: c. 7,000) and Phillipston (pop: c. 1,500), Massachusetts. (The Commonwealth of Massachusetts offers detailed profiles of Templeton and Phillipston.)The towns are located sixty miles west of Boston, forty miles northeast of Springfield, thirty miles north of Worcester. Offering a more "local" perspective, Templeton now has a town web-site: www.templeton1.org.
The Quabbin Reservoir is less than four miles from the westernmost point of Phillipston. Abutting to the west are Petersham and Athol, to the north Winchendon, to the east Gardner, and to the south Hubbardston. Route 2 passes through both towns from east to west.
In 1955, a high school district was formed in the two towns, and an elementary district, known as School Union No. 1, which also included Royalston, was formed. The District became "unified" (K-12) in 1977. Now the district has built a new high school and opened a middle school as part of a program to accommodate the 1,500 students.
