McKinney Vento - Families Needing Assistance

Narragansett Regional School District

McKinney Vento

The general term for homeless, means that individuals lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

Children of families that have been brought together, under the same roof, for whatever reason are considered DOUBLED UP and fall under the guidelines clearly stated by McKinney Vento.

Example:  Johnny and his brothers and sisters along with his mom and dad are temporarily living with his Grandmother and Grandfather, due to job loss and financial hardship.   These children along with their families fall under the McKinney Vento guidelines for being DOUBLED UP.

Example:  Johnny and his brothers and sisters along with his mom, temporarily move in with a close friend that has children attending the same school district for economic hardship due to foreclosure or split up.  Johnny and his brothers and sisters are considered DOUBLED UP.

Transportation:  Under McKinney Vento families with children that are DOUBLED UP, living in a different school district then the children's original school placement; have the right to be transported back to their school of origin.  The cost of transportation will not become the burden of the family or student.

All are considered doubled up under the McKinney Vento ACT for Homeless Students, until their residences become permanent.

Should you feel that your children qualify under the definition of Doubled Up, call Sandy Kulvete 978-939-8892 or 978-939-1210 Homeless Representative NRSD
