Social Studies News
Mrs. Huhtala’s class is studying the First Thanksgiving this month in social studies.
Children each asked themselves a research question about the event.
Some questions were:
Who was Squanto?
What did they eat at the First Thanksgiving?
Did the Native Americans have horses?
How do you make a bow and arrow?
Children did research in books and on the computer to find the answer to their
own question. Then they completed an “answer project” to teach other children
the answer to their research question. Answer projects could be a diorama,
painting, an original song, or a piece of NF writing.
We had a great time learning more about the First Thanksgiving in 1621!
