Grade 5
Students increase their skills in using a variety of media to create original art. Students explore visual art concepts outlined in the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks such as: Line, Shape & Form, Space, Color, Value and Texture. Instruction is focused on:
- Use of space
- 2D Shapes verses 3D Forms
- Paper and Clay Sculpture
- Drawing from imagination and Contour Drawing
Grade 6
Students expand their knowledge of art media and techniques outlined in the Massachusetts Art Curriculum Frameworks. Several projects will review and enhance skills and concepts introduced in the fifth grade. In addition students will be creating artwork which focuses on Art Principles such as: Balance, Space, Rhythm, Pattern and Movement.
Grade 7
The seventh grade Visual Art Program broadens students' thinking about ways of expression and communication, enabling them to create, as well as respond to both historical and present day art forms. At this grade level, the program meets the requirements of the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks by teaching students to build skills in Color Theory, Complex Shapes and Forms, Contrast, Emphasis, Unity, Abstraction, and Craftsmanship.
Grade 8
Eighth grade art instruction takes into account students' evolving needs and interest, builds on their prior experiences, provides a valuable means of creative expression and enjoyment, and enables insightful connections to be made with ideas from other disciplines. In keeping with Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks, instruction focuses on individual projects related to:
- Shading Techniques and Values in a variety of media
- Composition, Layout, Negative and Positive Space
- Advertising and Visual Communication
- Craftsmanship and Creative Expression
